ABOUT THE EVENT

Since its founding in 1993, the European Union has represented a unique model for cooperation between states. However, recent challenges, including the withdrawal of Great Britain, have created new obstacles for the Union’s future. In this discussion, we will analyze what lies ahead for the European Union. What factors allowed the European Union to come to be? What lessons does the European experiment offer regarding the viability of supranational governance? What recent trends present the most credible challenges to the Union’s stability? How can the European Union best adapt to the shifting global political atmosphere of today? What is the role of young people in influencing the direction of the European Union? And, will the European Union manage to successfully maneuver the political uncertainty that has defined the 21st century thus far?

Foreign Affairs with Future Leaders is a series of youth-led discussions which analyze various international issues and topics by collaboratively addressing their most critical questions. They are co-hosted by the Onero Institute and the Delta Phi Epsilon Professional Foreign Service Fraternity at GWU. This discussion is also co-hosted by GWU European Horizons.
