ABOUT THE EVENT
In this discussion, we will speak with Dr. Alexander Cromwell about the involvement of youth in international affairs research. We will address topics such as the importance of youth participation and youth issues in research, critical considerations in designing a research project, the challenges that young people face in conducting research, and paths towards overcoming them. There will also be an opportunity for participants to share with peers their own unique ideas for research projects in international affairs.
Dr. Alexander Cromwell is the Associate Director of Dean’s Scholars and Experiential Learning at the Elliott School of International Affairs. In this role he teaches all of the courses in the Dean’s Scholars sequence as well as short-term abroad courses. His research focuses on peace education in conflict contexts, and he has conducted research on the impact of these programs with Pakistani, Afghan, and Indonesian youth. He has over 10 years of experience with youth programming, and has worked with groups from the Middle East, South and Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States. His recent projects include the Afghanistan-US Cross Cultural Peer Learning Program, a program that paired American and Afghan students for online dialogue, and his work serving as a peacebuilding facilitator for Project Common Bond, a camp that works with youth who lost a family member through war, terrorism, or violence.
Foreign Affairs with Future Leaders is a series of youth-led discussions which analyze various international issues and topics by collaboratively addressing their most critical questions. They are co-hosted by the Onero Institute and the Delta Phi Epsilon Professional Foreign Service Fraternity at GWU.
